"Do What You Love" Meet New Zealand Author Jonathan Gunson

MY PEOPLE ANGELS: PART 1 OF 12 JONATHAN GUNSON

This year I’m going to feature special people who have been inspirational in my writing life-in no particular order. For January, I’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Gunson: author, illustrator, indie publisher of the “Goggles” series, and TV producer. I asked him one question: “What would you tell your elementary school-aged self?” Here’s his answer:

The secret I would say to my elementary school self. I would whisper it at bedtime.

Hello little Jonathan. It's been a long time since I saw you. May I tell you the secret to having a lovely time?

OK then, here goes

Just do what you love. It's allowed! In fact, always do the things you love, that give you bliss, and make you happy.

If you're not sure what they are, don't worry, just look for where you have the most fun, and things will begin to appear.

And if there's something you want to do, but you're not sure it will work, remember that if you love it, and KNOW it's the sort of thing that's most fun ever, then keep going, and the magic will happen.

Love from 'Jonathan The Older'.

Thankfully, I can call Jonathan my friend in the writing realm today even though he is 8,235 miles away in New Zealand. Today’s world seems to be a smaller place, thanks to the communication technology we enjoy.

Think about the people in your life who have helped you become your best person. Can you list them? Give them a shout out in gratitude.

Jonathan has been kind enough to allow us to share one page from his companion coloring book which is available with the purchase of his Goggles First Bear to Fly book. Thank you Jonathan! Click to print. Color an send back to me so we can post it next month.

NEW RELEASE

Here’s a late addition to this post: a fantastic video! Jonathan has recorded his voice in this reading and a friend of his worked on the music. A great bedtime story!

My News

I’ve decided to write a young-adult novel this year about the adventures of a teenage girl who has just become an orphan. I’m trying to decide on her name. Would you like to weigh in? I like these names so far:

Sierra

Gillian

Cimarron

Do you like any of these or have another suggestion? Please comment below. Thanks!
