Finding Strength: During the Panic of 1893 won the 2nd quarter 2024 Firebird Award in three categories:

Cover design: 2nd place

Coming of Age Fiction: 1st place

Young Adult Christian Historical Fiction: 1st place

I think I wrote Pip’s story five different ways before I liked it. Following an editorial review, I made some wonderful improvements. Thank you, John Briggs. Claudia finished all the beautiful illustrations. Proofreading is complete, too, and it’s now in the capable hands of my interior designer, Rebecca at Design for Writers. Rebecca’s husband, Andrew, designed the cover, which I’m pleased to share with you here. You can’t really see it unless you zoom in, but there’s a faint fern-like texture in the background. Love it!

Oakwoods is well underway for a 2025 release of all five brand new early reader chapter books. Featuring Boon, a wise turkey vulture in every book, each title will have another under-appreciated woodland animal’s exploits and growth.
