October, 2025 Author Update
Had a great day at the Kansas Book Festival on September 21st. I hope I am invited next year, too. Here’s a little news video taken then. I’m only in it for a second, but, hey, I’m thankful for this opportunity. The weather remained mild and everyone enjoyed a great day.
It was a pleasure to visit with librarians, teachers, parents, grandparents, and their children! One of the parents even asked for a picture of me with their young readers! Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. (Can you see the shredded shoelaces on my shoes? Thanks a lot, Maggie.)

2025 LANSING FALL FESTIVAL IS SAT., OCT. 11
It’s that time of year again! Join us on the beautiful grounds of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 900 Ida St. and scenic Angel Falls Trail from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Admission and entertainment are free of charge. Attendees will enjoy a variety of fall offerings from seasonal food and beverage, children’s dance performances and art and craft vendors.
Over 300 small pumpkins are available for kids to decorate and take home at the Lansing Community Library tent. New this year is a small petting zoo, exotic bird display by Beaks n’ Wings rescue, talented ventriloquist Diana Rockwell and “Magic Man” Reggie Regg. Due to popular demand, the Kid’s Kooky Spooky Costume Contest and Apple Pie Baking contest are both returning with cash prize awards.
Kid-friendly activities also include free rides and inflatables, face painting and other fun activities. More than 70 vendors will be located along the trail and near the church for your browsing and shopping pleasure. Shuttle service will be available from the Lansing Elementary School (450 W. Mary St.) and the Lansing Aquatic Center (630 W. Mary St.) Attendees are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle, which will run every 15 minutes. Onsite parking will be limited.
A new option this year is to park at the Lansing Aquatic Center and take a nature walk along picturesque Angel Falls Trail to the festival.
Please note: The Lansing Fall Festival will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the event may be canceled. For more information, go to City of Lansing and/or Lansing, Kansas Happenings on Facebook or contact the Community and Economic Development Dept. at (913) 364-6927.
Maggie
Maggie - 3.5 months
Maggie is officially 3 1/2 months old now, over 25 pounds, and puppy pre-school is underway. (I have scars to prove it.) So far, we’ve made progress on sit, off, down, leave it, and we're introducing come and wait. Chewing is still a thing. So it housebreaking. Ugh. And riding in the car isn’t her cup of tea, but she’s improving. She can be a good dog, so there’s hope. (Who said we should get a puppy at our age?)
My go-to toy is shown below—for the hour when she turns into a gremlin—usually, but not limited to, 7-8pm. It wears her out faster than it does me. After about a half-hour, she’s ready for sleep.
But if it’s Tuesday night, we’re at puppy class from 8-9pm. She’s still a gremlin there, so far. But she’s learning and she loves playing with the other pup her age after we work together. She’s a golden retriever pup named Magnolia. How’s that for confusing? Maggie and Magnolia.
I’ve purchased a bunch of little seasonal bandanas that slide over her collar. So cute. I have one for summer (watermelons), fall leaves, Chiefs, two Christmas, and one winter one, so far. I’ll have to figure out how to put them on the new collar I purchased though. It’s a martingale style. (a bit of tightening if she pulls)
Suffice it to say, between working and puppyhood, my writing has taken a back seat this month. Still hope to release Miss Emeline’s prequel in 2026, but it might be fall instead of spring.

Charlie & Erika Kirk
I wholeheartedly support TPUSA and Erika Kirk in the aftermath of the tragic assassination of the amazing Charlie.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
I’m encouraged by the outpouring of love from the majority of people (and aghast at the others) and look forward to a revival of our families, and our country, as a whole.
Praying always.
