Kathy DeShon, a veteran teacher of 32 years, shares three tips for parents and teachers to promote your children’s interest in the written word. Kids must learn to read and understand written language to succeed in life. It’s as simple as that.

One of my favorite books of all time, as a student, I packed my copy with other belongings when I attended Kansas University. My roommate and I took turns reading a short story — just to take a break from the heaviness of studying before we went to sleep.
