Arts Integration in School: 10 Reasons Why It's So Important

Art

Why the arts? Take a look at 10 reasons why the arts are so important for child development inside.

And, regarding the visual arts, to me, the best picture books have outstanding art. Sometimes, simple is good. Sometimes very detailed is better. (Kids love to find things hidden on the pages.) I prefer traditional watercolor and ink, myself, but there are some really good digital artists that can enhance a great traditional piece.

GIVE IT A TRY!

Here’s my favorite watercolor artist - where I’ve learned the most. Maria Raczynska has lots of videos on YouTube and also her own Patreon channel.

This is a beginner one that I think every kid could watch and try. She draws lightly on the watercolor paper, she wets just the part she wants to paint. Notice she puts paint on her brush and then wipes it on the towel so she doesn’t get too much water. A washcloth or towel is even better than a paper towel. Sometimes, she uses a damp brush with no paint to actually pick up extra water and then dry it off.

Try it! Then email me your painting for posting. Don’t forget to sign you name to it too.

Pat's Craft - October 2.jpg

Besides canning (jar-ing) applesauce and baking pumpkin bread, Pat has been busy crafting this month. She loves fall - and so do I. What’s your favorite time of year?

Julia, Jaden, Sandy, and Lilly placed 6th, 8th, 1st, and 2nd, respectively in the USA Wrestling Preseason Tournament last weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. Excellent work! It takes lots of discipline to keep fit, eat right, and practice to play sports, doesn’t it? So proud of you girls!

Braxton carved the creepy pumpkin and Addie carved the love-ly one. Nice job, guys!
