March Author Update
Early Reader Chapter Book series: Oakwoods
They’re in the print shop! I should receive the books just prior to the Midwest Parent Educator’s Conference April 4th & 5th. If you’re going, stop by and be one of the first to get these for your beginning readers.
Each book is an adventure with an unsung animal hero who lives Oakwoods—the woods near Bandana Acres. They’re beautifully illustrated in full color by Claudia Gadotti and have an easy to read font, a glossary of newer words, a What If? section for reading comprehension and application to real life, and a Did You Know? section with facts about the main animal.
Check each story out on my website! Preorder, if you like. I’ll send them as soon as I receive them.
Will she win April 1st?
Cover will include a tag line under her name.
Overcoming the Bitterness of War, by Isatu Boyce
We have made GREAT STRIDES with this work. Back from the editor, changes have been made, and the draft is now in the capable hands of the interior designer!
Isatu’s website is up and running and she’s already pre-sold many copies. Please take a look!
Her story is incredible—chilling in more ways than one. In spite of the hardships she endured, she showed a surprising resilience and grasp of true, sincere forgiveness. I hope you purchase a copy and sign up for her blog, which promises insights and encouragement.
(Content warning: There’s no bad language, but her story includes child abuse, violence, and graphic descriptions. Read with caution.)
Non-Fiction Anyone?
I still plan to write a prequel to Emeline’s stories. But after that, I might write some non-fiction for a while. But what to write about? Brainstorming, I’ve come up with so many ideas, I can’t decide.
Here’s the non-fiction imprint. Do you like it?
Will you help? Ask your middle school students which non-fiction topics they enjoy reading about. (Please and thank you.)

White Oak Project
Last November, I picked one of the last acorns from the beautiful white oak tree in the middle of our backyard.
After watching a YouTube video, I checked it for viability, then wintered it in the fridge. (Turns out this species didn’t need that.)
After Christmas, I planted it. In February, it sprouted, not one but two, seedlings. Twins! My husband says to let them grow. We can separate them later and have two trees.
For fun, I thought I’d share its progress over the next months.

Welcome Daylight Savings
Spring Forward One Hour on March 9th
Did you know Standard Time is also called Winter Time? Sixty percent of the countries in the world stay with it, while the rest switch to Daylight Savings Time to make better use of the natural light in spring, summer, and early fall. November 2nd, we’ll go off DST.
Two states in the U.S. stay on Standard Time: Arizona and Hawaii.
