October Author Update

October…

is one of my favorite months. I love caramel, apple-anything, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, hot tea, appropriate fires, the rich colors of the leaves, cooler nights with the windows open, and more. What are your favorite things about autumn? (EMAIL ME)

Meet My Editor: Fija Callaghan

Fija Callaghan is an author, poet, and a content editor with The History Quill. She is also The History Quill’s community manager. Her work has been shortlisted and longlisted for a number of short story prizes, and you can find her writing in publications like Gingerbread House, Crow & Cross Keys, Corvid Queen, and Mythic Magazine. When not writing or helping other writers get the best out of their work, she can be found haunting her local bookshops or watching the tide come in.

If Fija were stranded on a desert island, the two historical novels she would want with her are Kerri Maher’s The Paris Bookseller and Mary Ann Shaffer’s The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

I’m very excited to see Fija’s comments in early November, as well as comments from a few of you who are reading my rough draft. Thank you! All opinions and suggestions are valuable and much appreciated.

School Visits

Kids love author visits. Strengthen your language curriculum with my visit. We can discuss building strong sentences, five elements of story, or YOU NAME IT, we’ll do it.

Since it’s been a while since I’ve visited, I’m willing to do three presentations for free. Would you like one?

I’ve updated my school visit brochure and have sent our a few emails. Much more work to do, though. If you are in a school or in a homeschool group, contact me to schedule.

ZOOM ROOM

Our third bedroom has gone from an office with a desk, which I never used, to a ZOOM room. I bought an extra large commercial grade card table with 4 cushioned folding chairs for this room. I’ll be able to change the background just by moving the table if I want. Versatile, it will also be used for:

  • watercolor painting

  • jigsaw puzzles

  • dinner with guests

  • game table

  • hide out for grandkids (or dog)

  • & more

When I finish painting and setting everything up, I’ll post a photo.

Mid-Continent Library Local Author Fair

Here’s a link to the November 18th fair I’m fortunate to attend this year. Check out the authors who are listed according to genre, many with websites to visit.
