THE ICEBERG ANALOGY

What Lies Under the Surface?

The iceberg serves as a great analogy in many areas of life. The important thing is that 90% of the iceberg remains unseen. Only a small fraction is visible above the water. This principle could apply to many areas of life including:

  • A person. What do we really know about a perso?. What we can see or hear. But there’s so much more below the surface. Remember this!

  • A sporting, musical, academic, or other event. Success, even failure, requires an incredible amount of preparation besides character qualities like determination, courage, self-discipline, and resilience.

  • A book. As a writer, I can tell you that there are innumerable hours spent on research, especially with historical fiction. For my work-in-progress, I’m researching a multitude of topics including, the Panic of 1893 (financial, railroad, and labor issues), the first World’s Fair in Chicago, dairy farming, woodworking, increased technology, as well as the women’s suffrage movement, and teen psychological issues, A mere fraction of this information will ever make it into the final manuscript! (It’s not a history book, after all.)

Praise Jesus!

Who knew I would have medical problems in January? (He did.) My heart rate consistently stayed in the 40s (sometimes as low as 20s) so into the emergency room I went. After days of testing, I was scheduled to receive a pacemaker. Thanks to my daughter’s friend who’s a cardiac nurse, I requested the new Micra pacemaker, which is wireless, and inserted right into the heart through an artery. (Much less invasive and easier recovery.) A prominent EP doctor I requested performed the operation. I stayed home from work for another week to recover from a sinus infection, and all. Now, my heart is working fine.

Side note: During the procedure, I stopped breathing and was “code blue”. The doctors brought me back with a respirator. Of course, I was clueless, but it stressed my poor husband in the waiting room for what seemed to him an eternity. We are so thankful I’m still here!

The History Quill Conference

It just so happens I listened to many of the Zoom videos in person for the conference this week. A silver lining in my recovery week, I’ve learned so much. Plus, I have all the recordings forever!

Upcoming Homeschool Visit

I’m very excited to speak to four homeschool families on the 9th of February. The topic chosen was: Building Strong Stories in which we will discover the Five Elements of Story as taught by Daniel Schwabauer.

I would love the opportunity to speak to you and your homeschool family groups as well. Contact me.

Oh, and here’s the Sunroom House video.

(Our fall/winter project) Imagine! I was painting, setting tile, cleaning, etc. only a couple of months ago.
