A Great Idea Can Come From Anywhere, Anytime

Adventure Novelist: M. Liz Boyle

The idea for becoming a writer came during her kids’ nap time. For me, it came from an art show. It’s crazy how ideas can come in and take root when you least expect it. Watch my interview with M. Liz Boyle in the following video, discover her young adult adventure stories, and more. (13 minutes)

About M. Liz Boyle ~

Liz enjoys staying at home with her three children and is thankful for the privilege. She and her husband share a love for the outdoors and enjoy hiking, backpacking and rock-climbing. Her husband has a thriving tree service business called Sky’s the Limit, which sound perfect for someone who’s used to heights.

Concerned about why so many young people’s books lacked moral growth, she thought, “They should write some books like that.” Later, during nap time, she thought, “Maybe I could write a story like that.” From this little nugget blossomed an author of three adventure novels! The series is called Off the Itinerary. (Click the images to visit their Amazon pages.) Avalanche features a 15-year-old girl, but the adventure appeals to both boys and girls. In Chased, she is 16 and in Ablaze she’s 17.

True Story

Though she’s never been in an avalanche or a forest fire, Liz shared this story with me after our interview:

This summer on a National Park trip to southern Utah, during a touristy trail ride, a thunderstorm erupted out of the clear blue sky and there was a flash flood. The cowboy guide abandoned the horses and lifted the kids across the small raging river. For me, it was exhilarating! For my mother-in-law, it was.... well, she’s not sure if she should tag along for another trip, haha. We piled into the rental car all muddy like that, and it took several hours of scrubbing before we could return the rental van. On our way home, we re-wrote the lyrics to the Gilligan’s Island theme song and mailed them to our cowboy guide.
