You Meet Amazing People When Doing Research

I enjoyed the rare privilege of interviewing Eric Hollenbeck, one of the few people in the world with knowledge of woodworking tools and techniques dating back to 1866. As a historical fiction author, authentic research is of critical importance to the story. Thank you, Eric, for sharing with us!

You can watch specific videos of Eric’s on the Magnolia Network. His millwork website is Blue Ox Mill. Another site is Blue Ox Historic Village.

Most of my videos are shorter, but this one is worth the time. Eric shares valuable nuggets of wisdom throughout. In the first part, he answers my questions about the trade. The second part (about 16.5 minutes in) is truly heartfelt. He talks about two of his programs: a school for at-risk students and a program for returning combat veterans. The thing that makes these programs successful is EMPATHY. “I have walked a mile in both of them boots,” he says.

Please watch and share with your loved ones.
