The Compass

The Compass - The Original GPS

If you had no GPS or phone, could you find your position in the middle of nowhere — find a heading to where you are going — know your ETA? In the past, a compass, map, and pocket watch were essential pieces of equipment when traveling across unfamiliar territory.

I remember using a compass at Girl Scout camp. It’s empowering. The short TED talk below discusses the origins and importance of this tool. Modern compasses have a few more features than the earlier ones, and YouTube has several videos on exactly how to use them. I challenge you and your kids to try it.

It’s an old, but useful skill to have. Always be able to find your way home.

Author Update

I'm revising the draft for Finding Strength after getting helpful suggestions from my editor. I’m so glad I took this important step to create a great story. I’ve deleted almost all of one character, added a chapter, and I’m about halfway through the revision. It’s due back to the same editor for a Review Critique by November 18th. Tick, tick, tick.

I still work three days a week at Van’s Fence, which keeps my busy, too.

Oh, and today’s my birthday!

Zoom Room

Behind the giant curtain I have 4 folding chairs for the card table. I’ll set it up whenever I want to work there. My stock of A Journey is in the closet, too.

The cabinet with stained glass panels holds all my Bandana Acres stock. (Yes, I designed and crafted the stained glass years ago. (Love the bookworm’s glasses.) When in the classroom, I taught behind this cabinet.

Nanny, my maternal grandmother, gave me the dachshund bank.

Local Author Fair

If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello! I’ll be in the young adult book area.

We’ll be at the Woodneath Library Center, 8900 NE Flintlock Road, Liberty, MO on Saturday, November 18, from 1:00-4:30pm.

Click on the image below to learn more about the event and who’ll be there. Most authors have links to their websites for further information.

Incredible Art

This is random, but I thought it was so cool, I’d throw it in today’s blog. Looks like fun! I wonder where she gets the paint.
